Stairlift Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
At Helping Hand Stairlifts, we understand that choosing the right stairlift can raise many questions. Our comprehensive FAQ section is here to help.
General Stairlift Questions (FAQ's)
1. What is a stairlift, and how does it work?
A stairlift is a motorised chair that moves along a rail attached by small feet screwed directly to your staircase, allowing you to safely go up and down stairs. It is battery-powered to ensure continuous operation even during power cuts. Stairlifts recharge automatically in their park position.
2. Who can benefit from a stairlift?
Stairlifts are ideal for individuals with limited mobility or anyone who finds climbing stairs challenging due to age, injury, or disability.
3. Do you offer free home assessments?
Yes! We provide free, no-obligation home assessments to evaluate your staircase and recommend the best stairlift for your needs. We also offer a self measure service which can really speed up the process.
Pricing & Financing
4. How much does a stairlift cost?
The cost varies based on the type of stairlift, staircase design, and additional features. Straight stairlifts start at approximately £895/£2,500, while curved models can range from £1995/£5,000+. Contact us for a personalised quote.
5. Do you offer financing options?
At present we don't. We do however, accept various payment methods, including debit card, bank transfer or cash.
6. Are there grants or assistance programs available?
You may qualify for government grants or disability assistance programs to help cover the cost of your stairlift. You would need to contact your local councils aids and adaptation team. There can be a long wait of 6 months to 3 years for funding depending on where you live in the country.
Installation & Maintenance
7. How long does installation take?
Most straight stairlifts can be installed in under 2 hours, while curved stairlifts may take up to 4 hours due to their custom design.
8. Will my stairlift work during a power cut?
Yes! All our stairlifts are powered by rechargeable batteries that allow multiple trips even if the power goes out. They will automatically recharge when power is restored.
9. Does a stairlift require regular maintenance?
We recommend an annual maintenance and safety check to ensure your stairlift runs smoothly. Our service plans include routine inspections, repairs, and emergency support. See our Stairlift Aftercare page for more information.
